This was to be the first in a series of very successful and unusual children's titles. Berühmt wurde er durch einfühlsam-kunstvolle Kinderbuchillustrationen, aber auch beissend satirische Karikaturen und erotische Erwachsenenbildbände: «Er ersoff in Talent», sagten seine Bewunderer. Der Dokumentarfilm von 2012 porträtiert Tomi Ungerer, den Meister des Zeichenstifts, durch die Augen von Regisseur und Freund Brad Bernstein ganz unmittelbar und unverstellt: wild und subversiv, widersprüchlich und komplex — und als einen Menschen, der lebenslang Grenzen ausgelotet hat.
